For the fifth time
around, Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach is once again recognized as Trainer
of the Year during the 89th edition of Boxing Writers Association of America
(BWAA).
In the past year,
Roach has dominated the boxing scene, given the number of his trained boxers
have prevailed in their respective matches, thus giving more honors to coach
Roach.
Among his triumphant
boxers include Ruslan Provodnikov, who won against Mike Alvarado, Julio Cesar
Chavez Jr., and the WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.
Roach is currently steering
an intense training session with the former world champion Miguel Cotto, in
preparation for his imminent match against the middleweight champion Sergio
Martinez.
The Cotto-Martinez
bout is set to happen this June.
