Freddie Roach named Trainer of the Year, afresh

For the fifth time around, Hall of Famer trainer Freddie Roach is once again recognized as Trainer of the Year during the 89th edition of Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA).

In the past year, Roach has dominated the boxing scene, given the number of his trained boxers have prevailed in their respective matches, thus giving more honors to coach Roach.

Among his triumphant boxers include Ruslan Provodnikov, who won against Mike Alvarado, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and the WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao.

Roach is currently steering an intense training session with the former world champion Miguel Cotto, in preparation for his imminent match against the middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

The Cotto-Martinez bout is set to happen this June.

Prior to this credit, Roach has likewise achieved the BWAA Trainer of the Year award for the year 2003, 2006, 2008 and 2009.
