PAGASA issued latest tropical cyclone "Ester" warning

MANILA, Philippines - The recently monitored Low Pressure Area (LPA) in Northern Luzon has finally turned into a tropical depression as of mid-day Tuesday (June 10th), according to PAGASA.

As of 5AM of Tuesday morning, Ester is spotted based on satellite data at 190 kilometer northwest of Laoag City or around 150 kilometers northwest of Calayan Island.

"The regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms," according to PAGASA.

PAGASA forecaster Buddy Javier said the new tropical depression is named Ester, the fifth weather disturbance to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this year.

So far, the new tropical depression moves with a strength of 55 kilometer per hour (kph) and is expected to intensify further in the following days.

PAGASA however said TD Ester will less likely to make a landfall inside the country.

As of 4PM today, the center of tropical depression Ester was estimated based on satellite data at 200 km northeast of Basco, Batanes at 22.3.0°N 122.7°E coordinates. It's moving with a maximum winds of 55 kph near the center and is forecasted to move northeast at 22kph.

Storm signal number 1 is raised over Batanes Group of Islands, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands.
Yellow rainfall warning or widespread rainfall alert is now raised over the areas in Bataan, Zambales and Pampanga.

Some parts of Metro Manila and Bulacan will experience thunderstorms in the next few hours.

Moderate to strong winds coming from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Light to moderate winds coming from the southwest will prevail over Visayas and from the south to southwest over Mindanao with slight to moderate seas.
