June 12, 2014 Independence Day is declared Regular National Holiday

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine government has officially declared June 12th, 2014 (Thursday) as one of the Regular National Holiday in the country.This is in commemoration of the country's Independence Day.

Indicated in proclamation No. 655 signed by President Benigno Simeon Aquino III is a declaration statement emphasizing June 12th, as one of the regular national holidays in the Philippines this year.

According to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the 2014 Philippine Independence is commemorated with the theme "Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenting Pagbabago (Following the Footsteps of the Great Filipinos towards Widespread and Lasting Change).

This year's Independence Day celebration marks the 116th anniversary of the Philippine declaration of Independence from the Spanish colony, which has had governed the Filipino country for over 377 years.
