DepEd suspends classes for July 16, 2014 due to tropical storm GLENDA

DepEd Philippines, on its latest classes advisory via Facebook page has declared suspension of classes for July 16, 2014 in various areas across the Philippines due to tropical storm Glenda, which has already entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), as of July 15th, 2014.

These are the list of places where all class levels are officially cancelled or suspended (July 16th):

Local suspensions of classes in areas where there is no storm signal will depend on the local government unit's (LGU) official declaration.

DepEd's declaration on suspension of classes for tomorrow, July 16, 2014 is in line with the ageny's safety precautions due to the possible effects of tropical storm Glenda in the country, particularly in the areas where storm signals are raised.

The Philippine Information Agency has also posted the same announcement via Facebook, indicating the areas under public storm warning signal numbers 1, 2, and 3 as of 5PM of July 15th. 

SIGNAL NUMBER 3: Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Quezon including Polillo Islands, Marinduque, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Northern Samar, Northern part of Samar, Northern part of Eastern Samar.

SIGNAL NUMBER 2: Southern Aurora, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Lubang Island, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Biliran, Rest of Samar, Rest of Eastern Samar, Northern part of Leyte province and Metro Manila.

SIGNAL NUMBER 1: Northern Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union, Occidental Mindoro, Rest of Leyte, Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu including Cebu City and Camotes Islands.

Tropical Cyclone Glenda Update (Latest from PAGASA)

Tuesday evening:
  • Expected to make landfall over Albay then cross the Bicol Region tonight towards Southern Luzon.
  • Forecast to move West Northwest at 19 kph.
  • Maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
  • Typhoon "Glenda" is now over Albay gulf as it approaches Legazpi City (as of 5PM Tuesday July 15th).
