Latest Weather Update October 8th: Typhoon Ompong(Vongfong)

PAGASA, in its latest weather advisory issued at 10:30AM of Wednesday, October 8, 2014, said Typhoon Ompong has maintained its strength as it moves west northwest over the Philippines Sea.


Based on satellite data, the eye of Typhoon Ompong was located at 1,080 km East of Tuguegarao City as of 10:00AM, Wednesday. It has maximum sustained windes of 215 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph. It is forecasted to slowly move West Northwest at 9kph.



Ompong is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2014.

While typhoon Ompong is that intense, the Philippine weather bureau has not issued public storm warning signal. The agency however warns the public to remain vigilant for possible occurrence of flash floods or landslides, as the typhoon brings heavy rains in several areas of the country.

PAGASA has further explicated that the presence of this typhoon enhances the northeasterly winds to rough to very rough sea conditions over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon. Fishermen, as well as those using small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the said seaboards.

So far, in Siaton, the presence of typhoon Ompong has brought intermittent heavy rains with strong winds blowing from time to time. Depicted in the following image is the forecasted track of typhoon Ompong by PAGASA.
